This section was announced March 1908 to compete with homes across this section of Deal Lake , opposite Asbury Park. The section was developed by William Griffin Jr. and S. A. Patterson. – who also owned Wanamassa Gardens – the establishment at 1001 Wickapecko Drive.
It seems James Bradley, founder of Asbury Park, was not happy with Griffin, his operations nor this development, as the homes were “cheaper”.
The Asbury Park Alternative – Iona Park.
Griffin offered guarentees – promoted the property as a cheaper alternative to Asbury Park. On April 16, 1908, in the Monmouth Democrat, William Griffin transferred a lot to Annie Griffin. Ballard Drive -named after a Dr. Ballard.
